bow making

Society for the Promotion of Traditional Archery

SPTA has been running weekend bowmaking workshops with Sylvan Archery for over 12 years. Participants learn the basics of bow design and techniques while making flatbows from easily available wood (staves are provided).

The intention is to provide participants with enough knowledge to make various bow designs from a range of materials -some have gone on to make bows for their entire family!

Staves, lunches and specialist tools are provided, participants must provide some basic hand tools and a portable workbench.

Dates for workshops, which are usually run in winter and spring, can be found on the 'updates' page.An example of a workshop booking form with more information is available.
